A Preliminary Checklist of Moths Species from Periyanaickenpalyam Village, Coimbatore District, Tamilnadu, India

Abstract

Moths were collected from different parts of the village during October to December in 2018  to determine their diversity, species richness. A total number of 69 moth specimens were collected by using simple light traps operated from dusk to dawn daily. The moths caught were identified up to family level. The Shannon index value was the highest value in Geometridae family represents (0.3671) and the highest value of Simpson index with (0.1765) was in the Erebidae family. The dominance index with highest values in Erebidae with (42.02%) and found to be lowest in Saturniidae with (2.89%).
