Abstract

Junk-food is a term describing food that is perceived to be unhealthy or having poor nutritional value, according to Food Standards Agency. The term has since become common usage. Junk-food includes those food items that do not add any value to a person’s diet. Here value denotes essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals.


Fast food operations are now an important part of modern catering practice largely through the growth of international franchise chains. Fast foods are available in places sells food and snacks. Fast food is inexpensive because it is usually made with cheaper ingredients such as high fat meat, refined grains, and added sugar and fats, instead of nutritious foods such as lean meats, fresh fruits, andvegetables.


A quantative research approach with pre-experimental search design was used and the study was conducted at Thamna Education Institute. The sample comprised of 5th, 6th& 7th standard student. Sample was selected by using convenient sampling techniques. In these study found out that out of 60 school children 00%having inadequate knowledge, 13.3% having moderate knowledge and 86.7% adequate knowledge regarding hazards effect of junk-food.
