Heavy Metal Contents in a Sub-Urban Fresh Water Lake in Warangal District, Telangana, India

Abstract

The Heavy metals are most vulnerable environmental pollutants and their toxicity has been increasing significantly in the environment. The present study evaluates the occurrence and content of heavy metals such as Lead (Pb), Chromium (Cr), Cadmium (Cd), Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn), and Copper (Cu) in the water samples of Chinnawaddepally lake of Warangal District, Telangana State.There are four sampling sites were identified on the basis of the entry of pollutants in the lake. The heavy metal content concentrations have shown higher to lower in the  following order i.e Fe > Cu > Pb > Zn > Cd > Cr. The area under study receives domestic sewage and especially it is the site for idol immersion which take place in a large scale during and after several regular intervals.
