Abstract
Herbal medicine today ensures safety in contrast to synthetic preparations
Objective: Herbs have been extensively used as an effective traditional medicine for centuries. The present study aims at compiling and comprehending the pharmacological applications and synthesizing the potential image of Andrographis paniculata as a multipurpose medicinal remedy.
Key findings: The overall part of the plant contains a large number of chemical constituents, such as lactones, diterpenoids, diterpene glycosides, flavonoids and flavonoid glycosides. It has multiple pharmacological properties such as antibacterial, anti-cancerous, anti-tumorous, hepatoprotective activity, hypoglycemic, immunomodulatory and hypotensive activities.
Conclusions: Upcoming stronger reports in support of its multifarious therapeutic uses and concerning the useful benefits of the plant, it can be advocated as safe, highly important medicinal plant for mankind.
